I find it difficult to get sufficient air into my self inflating mat. The foam inflates to a certain extent, but then it requires topping up to become comfortable. The one I am using at the moment is from Decathlon.
The key problem is that when I open the valve and blow air into the mat this escapes either before I can screw the valve shut or when I reopen it to top it up again.
If anyone has any good ideas or a useful technique for this I would be most grateful.

Little Scamp blows hers up firmer than she actually wants it, then folds the corner of the mat over while she puts the cap on to restrict how much air escapes.  Took her a while to realise it worked better when she wasn't kneeling on it!!!!

That makes a lot of sense. So you turn over the top corner - near the cap/valve - to prevent air from most of the mat coming out. I like it.

or keep blowing into the valve as you screw it closed. That seems to work for me :)

That's what we do - also you can put your tongue over the hole if you need to take another breath.

Cheers
