After the windy w.end we need new tent pegs have read a lot about the Delta ones but are they as good as advertised in all types of ground ie: very soft to stoney/ rocky and all types of tent etc and is it best to buy direct or can I get them thro' this club? Thanks anyone.
I found them to be much better than the usual pegs this weekend. Our normal pegs were being ripped out and bent all shapes, but the deltas stayed put. I had shared mine out with my friends , good thing i did, the normal pegs would never have held the tents down withut the deltas.
In the memebers only section, top of page you can get a membership code to get 10% off deltas.
Deltas are excellent, but they're only for guylines not other pegging points and they don't work as well on sand/sandy soil as they do on clay and wet ground. Rob is working on a new design for soft sand though.
Best idea is to take a variety of pegs. The ones that come with the tent are likely to be rubbish 90% of the time so save them for the kids' play tent. Buy a good variety of other pegs...v-profile ones for the big corner ground straps, 12" skewers as thick as pencils for the ring and pins, the same or 9" ones for the flysheet bottom points, mushroom or ring tops for groundsheets and las but not least a good set of rock pegs, for ground that no wire peg or even Deltas can't get into. Oh, and crook top wire pegs are better than L-tops by a long, long way.
Then, unless you're going to a site where you know what you'll be pitching into, you take the lot. Then whatever happens you're sorted.
Excellent advise! I fully endorse the need for rock pegs.
I carry them on long walks with my back packing tent and at the end of a long day when you want to get the tent pitched with minimal aggravation, they're well worth the considerable weight penalty when compared to those little wire things!
I have ones that are approx 7" long and use these with a penny washer on the end. they screw into hard/rocky groung no problem at all and seem to cut their own hole as they do. I have a socket attached to a cordless drill for doing mine, but a friend has some that he puts in using a small box spanner.
Only cheap (cost me 20p each including a washer) but work very well
I have seen ebay sellers selling them as rock pegs for a lot more money though!
Deltas are the bee's knee's. Wouldn't be without them.
Follow the link below, place your order, when you get to the payment screen there is an additional info box. Write your UKCS member name in the box. You pay in full, then Rob sends you a refund of 10% via paypal. Im pretty sure this is still the way it works.
Another Yay for Rock pegs they saved my relationship with my OH!! It was the one thing that we fought over when we pitched (he used to go inside and put up the bedrooms cause we couldn't be in the same place, now I leave him happily bashing in my rocks and deltas.
Ordered mine on Monday did not get the 10% off though but who care's when you know they do a good job.

Cheers Jane, can you check your account for a refund. If you didn't get it then something's wrong.

Are these Delta pegs any good for realy rock hard ground.I have always used pegs that are more or less 6in nails with a plastic head pushed on to the top of the head.Never had any problems so far also easy for packing up on the motorcycle as space is a problem.

The plastic Deltas are a bit bulky but the metal deltas would pack better on a bike & go into hard/stony ground easier.

We have those as well for stoney ground, and plastic Deltas for non-stoney - its like most things in life having the right tools for the job makes things so much easier - you can peel an apple with a meat cleaver but its easier to use a peeler...
Cheers
