I have just bought the above stove for our camping trips and the shop told me I would need the campinggaz 907 gas. This is quite expensive and I was wondering if there was a cheaper alternative. Also if I can use different gas would I need to get a different regulator. Also we will use it for breakfast and dinner.....how long roughly will it last. Sorry for the twenty questions!!

it should run ok using Calor Gas, as long as you purchase an appropriate regulator.

difficult to say how long it would last, but I would say you should get a weeks holiday out of a smallish bottle, if not more - but please don't hold me to that.

Calor is much cheaper and lasts longer and if you speak nicely to someone at your local tip, they may give you a cannister or 2 for free. If you can get your hands on a Gaz 907 at the same time, it's useful for camping abroad as they don't sell Calor on the continent.

Most of the initial cost BTW is a deposit for the gas bottle. Calor costs less than £10 when you trade in an old bottle

I think I am correct in saying that it will also run on a 904 bottle which is smaller. I know ours does. It has lasted us a week no problems.

You will of course need the correct regulator for the bottle and type of gas.

gas bottle seems expensive at first but once you have bought it you just pay to re-fill it (exchange it for a full one). We got ours May last year and still haven't replaced it - although I'm not sure it will last long this weekend!?! lol.

Thanks guys. I think I'll take a trip to the tip and see if I can get a Calor gas bottle, are they all the same size? Sorry to sound like a total idiot but where can you buy a regulator suitable for a calor bottle from?

Hi Debbie,we have just bought that cooker,it comes with a camping gaz regulator. We use a 4.5kg butane gas bottle which lasts ages.Get a butane regulator but save the camping gaz one in case you go abroad as butane is not available in europe.I think Go-Outdoors are selling 4.5kg re-fills for £11.95.

I also need gas for this product. I thought it would be a doddle but I can't buy the 904 or 907 anywhere near here and I'm going away at the weekend.

What size of Calor Gas bottle do I need?

Thanks

Whatever size you want.

(You probably want the 4.5Kg butane bottle as that's the smallest and will run your stove for weeks and weeks. OR, if you have space, the new 6Kg "Calor Lite" Propane is a good buy as you get more gas, it'll work at lower temperatures (nice if you have a chilly morning) and overall weighs about the same as the 4.5Kg butane. The BP 5Kg propane (plastic bottle) is good too. Homebase have the 10Kg BP propane (also plastic) which will last you forever but is even bigger.)

You'll also need the correct regulator for whichever gas bottle you decide to go for.

I'd want the smallest possible. I've only just got the Mrs to agree to camping and even then it's only weekends as that is how long she can go without a shower.

Thanks for the advice Paul.
