would anyone or does anyone use an extension cable from there ehu? i mean as long as the unit isnt over loaded and doesnt trip ,is this safe?

We use an extension from our EHU in the tent to the utility tent which we use as a kitchen tent. I did make sure the extension used arctic / outdoor rated cable. Also remember to include all appliances plugged into EHU and extension to make sure you're not overloading.

A good tip is to keep your EHU, extension end etc off the ground. On a chair, hook, whatever.

If the RCD is working ok, you can use an extension lead in it safely. If it gets wet it'll trip, and if you overload it'll trip. If you haven't got an RCD you need to use the round blue plugs and sockets. But you need to get an RCD to be safe.

I use an extension but make sure I don't try and turn everything on at once!!

I use an outdoor rated extension, keep it off the ground and it should be fine. I do it the other way - EHU in the awning or day tent and run the extension into the tent or Combi. Less toing and froing of leads that way.

Please remember if using extension leads on a roll/reel they will get hot if sufficient power is drawn through them and could melt then short. Always fully unwind them but keep the cable neatly out of the way to avoid tripping over it.
Make sure the extension lead is also of an approved external/outdoor type not your standard household one.

we put EHU lead into utility / kitchen tent then had oe of these belkin outdoor 5m surge protected leads into the tent

our local home bargain shop was selling these for about £7 I think

Dont think your supposed to use that "above link" as an outdoor extension lead as it doesn't state for out door use.
Needs to be IP rated as weatherproof.

The only problem with an extention cable is the lengh, if it is too long it will affect the tripping times of the earth leakage unit in the EHU, due to resistance in the earth cable of the extention. If in dought use a plug in RCD into the extention cable, this will trip before the EHU.

A surge protection extention makes not difference these are to protect computors and such from spikes of voltage.

By the way what is an EHU?

electric hook up, and they must be weatherproof to be used in a tent
