CO prevents Oxygen reaching the tissues by binding strongly to the haemoglobin in the red blood cells and not letting go. In this way it causes asphyxiation if present in high enough concentrations. The danger arises because the gas is totally undetectable without dedicated sensors, and the symptoms of poisoning are often non-specific and also come on quickly. It's actually quite difficult to diagnose unless you're especially thinking of it.
We use a gas heater but also have a carbon monoxide detector in the tent. These are very sensitive and pretty cheap to get hold of. I recommend them.
That's really interesting superjules, I wonder what it does with the CO2 and moisture? I wonder the same with the cat type. Are cat heaters safe in tents too?
The EURO GT EGT 8020i HEATER has an oxygen analyser and I'm wondering if it simply switches itself off when the CO2 is high or the O2 is low. If that is the case it would probably switch itself off before the tent was warm, but at least you wouldn't poison yourself.

Anyone got one of these? It says it's certified for indoor use so presumably it would be safer in a tent than the £20 ones.
It's a radiant type heater and will put out CO - it's up to you. I'm not an expert but I would always use a "cat" type heater together with an audible CO Detector
so we are saying that the campingaz blue cat is ok to use in the tent,i hope so as ive only used mine once and im planning on using using it this weekend coming at a CS site so will have no EHU,i also have a breathable pollycotton tent so im hoping it should be safe..

I use my Black Cat in the Quasar and I'm still alive
