I bought the high canvas conversion kit when we outgrew our erde. I have to say, it looks and works well. Almost doubles the amount of kit we can take.
I have seen, I think, what you're describing (but not in wood). Last year a family near us had the same trailer as ours. They had a flat canvas cover, with four rectangular holes cut, two each side, to take two car roof bars with a roof box on top. The only drawback was that they had to fill the trailer, put the cover on, then lift the roofbox and bars on, so the trailer was inaccessible. But I suppost if you pack methodically, once the covers on, you won't need anything out of the trailer.
