Having decided to buy a hitchlock and padlock/chain for trailer, I'm just looking at Towsure and wondering which chain and how much to order? Do you think 2m of this one would be ok?

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/redirect.asp?redir=http://www.towsure.com/product/7723-Galvanised_Steel_Chain_(5/16_inch(8mm))

It's for maybe chaining it to the car if parked overnight somewhere or more likely for chaining to a tree etc if on site.

Thanks,

Nicola

It depends on how far your trailer will be from the tree and how big the tree is!

I uses to use a chain/padlock for my generator but found it heavy and difficult to manage.I bought a 4.5m (I think - def longer than 4m)  soft bodied cable with a masterlock lock from

www.smartoutdoors.biz     and it's great, easy to put on and the bright yellow lock is very visible. They call it a vanlock, to keep motorhome doors secure. My friend's hubby uses a shorter version for his motorbike.

i would look at chain thickness and material first ,most are nothing to a dedicated thief with the right tools ,the large hefty motorbike ones are pretty safe but heavy!
dont stint on the padlock i knocked one of my shed with a brick (lost the keys) which had a very famous tradename!!!its been replaced with an armoured hidden shackle undrillable version so heaven help me if i lose them again
don't under estimate thieves if its nickable they will try to nick it ,make it hard work at least.
my TT lives in the front garden ,it has a big hitchlock to deter the petty thieves and its also chained to a concrete fence post for the more desperate ,a hitchlock alone is pointless a trailer can be towed by a chain if its wanted enough ,the thicker the chain and the bigger the hole in the links means a bigger padlock can be used ,pointless having a thin chain with a padlock from poundland on it
