Got an EHU, the one from Waudbys so it's a propper one.
Has anyone got any suggestions to keep it off the floor. We don't have a table as i've seen some people clip them to the legs, i assume that's using the clips on the back.
Would a peice of wooden dowelling or something like that be ok hammered into the ground?
We have a SIG, but I do usually tie the EHU up to the first of the velcro ties that the Diablo has for running a light cable up to the top of the tent. Same with any extension sockets - probably best to keep them off the floor in case of a real flood! I know you are protected buy the EHU itself (I assume?), but better to be safe than smokin'!
------------- Hotels Suck. Villas are great but I can't take my Cadac on the plane....
I put mine on the floor as well, I thought it was ok as my tent has a sig, the ehu has clips to attach it to something but there is nothing to attach it to. So I put mine on the floor, as I use it to iron clothes, dry my hair & recharge things.
we fasten ours to the table leg with the clips at the back and use ties to stop it slipping down. when we first started camping we laid it on the floor before we got sig and it was always ok. but i would be tempted to lift it off the floor. just in case!
I keep mine on the floor. No worries. It would surely trip if it got a soaking?
If the sockets on the unit get water in, or the appliances plugged into them, the RCD on the unit will trip.
The trip will only protect the unit from the trip onwards. So if, on an unlucky set of circumstances, water shorts out the incoming cable to the unit, inside or outside the unit, if the site breaker doesn't trip, you could get a shock.
You do need to keep them dry as they are not fully waterproof. The clips on the back of some units are designed to go on the poles of awnings. As long as it is off the floor you should be OK.
When we had a dome tent, I bought a 2 ring stove & table in a deal at Makro. The table looks like this: -
I fitted a plastic board on one side of the table with some screws just protruding, nuts on the back. I made some strips of steel with 2 slots underneath that clip over these screws, thus holding the EHU onto the table legs.
We now have a FC, we use the table in the awning with the old EHU plugged into an all weather socket under the floor of the unit. You can see it here: -
