Hi,

Newbie here after some advice, just bought and tried Aldi self inflating mat although comfortable the shape has changed due to mat moving inside and not aligning to outside cover. This has led to corners turning in and not very easy to pack away.

Anyone bought these and had the same issues ?

Must say excellent forum :-)

I'd take it back and ask for an exchange Most people on here seem to swear by Aldi gear. Although there is the old adage of you get what you pay for Vango do them from 15quid. My sons had his 2 years and several scout camps later it's still fine it was only 18

I must have an Aldi mattress from the same batch.  We also have Outwell self inflating mats but got the cheapy Aldi ones for the kids to take to Cub/scout camps as they are the same price as a decent roll mat.  Have to say I'm not hugely impressed.  With our Outwell ones the cover seems to be attached to the cellular filling.  With the Aldi one, like yours the cover isn't attached to the filling so when you lie on it, your legs go up as the air displaced by the heavier torso gets displaced to where your lighter legs are.  If the cover was anchored in some way this couldn't happen.

I bought an aldi self inflating mat a few weeks ago, and used it for the first time this weekend. I have to say I didn't have any problems with it, and it was very comfortable. I would suggest your mat is faulty, take it back.

we also have one & have used it twice - no problems - sounds like there was something wrong with yours! they should take it back. i bought the cupboard a few weeks ago & one of the poles was broken - they swapped it without any problems.
good luck!

I bought two of these mats, and one of them has gone like you described. I put it down to wriggling kids as it was used sideways on, to fill the tent floor up, so they were using it where the pillows were rather than laying lengthways on it.  The other one was used the same (kids sleeping topsy turvey), but that was fine.

By the sounds of it it might be a fault with some of them. I didn't have any problems getting it rolled up again though, it just looks untidy.

No, it's not a fault. It's bad rolling technique. I'm hopeless at rolling up self-inflaters and mine always end up like that, but then Hubby takes them away and re-rolls them and they come out perfect. No idea how he does it though. Bigger hands?

Mine went like that before it had been rolled by us though, it was the first time it has been used.

Tried one out yesterday in the living room - no comparison to the Basecamp lying next to it - although it looked exactly the same height as soon as you lay on it you hit the floor.

Son (7) declared it much more comfy than the Basecamp and wants to keep it - then he rolled onto the floor and said that was the comfiest of all!!!! He does tend to end up sleeping on the floor of the tent - so he is not the best judge LOL! Not sure if we will keep them for the kids or not.   Will see at the weekend what we can fit in the car.

The posters who have had problems have they taken the mats back to Aldi for refund/replacement?

I bought 5 and I am worried that all the others may perform similar to the one at the weekend and that will be a disaster camping with 4 kids :-(

I haven't taken mine back, TBH i couldn't be bothered, Aldi is over the far side of town, not really worth the hassle in time or petrol. I decided although it looks wrong it shouldn't make any difference to using the mat as its just the cover, and if it does OH or one of the kids can use it!

No, I've not taken mine back.  I've decided that I'll keep them for the kid's friends to use for sleepovers, or if we garden camp with their friends - then my 'nice' ones don't get ruined. They'll also do for scout camp - their stuff always seems to come back trashed.

I did take our Aldi tent back after it leaked like the proverbial fridge (Luckily I still had the receipt) and they gave me a refund, no questions asked.  Superb customer service.

You definitely get what you pay for - buy cheap & prepare to be disappointed...
We use Multimat self inflating mats - http://www.multimat.uk.com
The trick is to let them inflate to their capacity, then lie on them & let a bit of air back out. Makes it far more comfortable...
