You can make a temporary repair with black insulation tape. Spare sections of pole can be bought at any camping retailer, along with the elastic for re-threading.

Please don't think I'm trying to turn you into a hobo, but it's always worth a casual look in the camp site bin when you're passing. We've seen lots of poles discarded because they have been broken (especially if the previous night was windy) and often the whole pole (i.e. all sections) have been ditched. All you do is cut the elastic, throw the damaged sections away and keep the good ones as spares.

To repair your pole without a specialist kit, you need a way of threading the elastic through the new and existing pole sections. Tape the elastic to a length of thick strimmer-line and thread that through... it works a treat!
