There's a new GPS called Pronav just out at Maplins. It's £199 but you can get a $15 voucher. It's for HGVs and the like but you set it for your length and width so it will be fine for caravans. As it's so new I can't find any reviews of it.

Whoops. Thought I was posting a reply but I seem to have started a new topic. Sorry!!

Lot of money for something that you can download for free for a TomTom costing around £100

HappyBonzo- I know this sounds stupid - but how do you download this info?
I'm new to SatNav, and just got a TomTom (One I think), and this info on the width may be useful for when I am towing our new folding camper.

Thanks!

I saw this in Maplin yesterday.   The box was HUGE - looked like it could have had something the size of a breadmaker in it!   I've no idea how big the unit is.

The difference with this unit seems to be that it will actually plan your route to avoid minor roads. You can't do this by downloading Points of Interest to a Tom Tom. The Tom Tom will display these but won't plan a route to avoid them.

I bet the next version of Tom Tom's units will include this feature now though.

Having lost this info 3 times now I shall add to it

Download the TomTom Home software - Make sure that you have a larger Sim card than the one that came with the device: In other words, buy the largest one that will run in your TomTom.

When you have made a backup go to Add Maps, Traffic and Voices - The go to Points of Interest. In there you will find all sorts of little gems - Enjoy

NB - Just had a look at the Pronav website and it says "exclusive to maplins" I'm sorry but that does not give me a lot of confidence. It doesn't say whether or not it can handle updates  such as adding Aires POIs and similar items. I have checked on a few Continental websites and there do not seem to be any updates for it. I would hate to be tied purely to the one company for updates.

PocketGPS is the best website for this type of equipment and also the advice on how to run it. I have psoted a request for information and will post if I get anything sensible

Here's a bit more on the Pronav    Darren, of pocketgpsworld, said that he was still waiting for a review unit

I thought that this remark by the Pronav people was pretty telling though - Quote"Navevo is also currently developing a European and US version of ProNav software." In other words, its no use yet for your annual Eurothrash
