I got one of these LED LENSER torches at the end of last year.  It's well put together and should last for years.

http://www.thetorchshop.co.uk/acatalog/LED-Lenser-Police-Tech-Focus.html

It's a great little torch with plenty of light output, much better than any of the Maglites I have owned!

Well, it may be, tho' as far as torches are concerned, smaller seems to be better - make of that what you will!

I have an expensive torch because during the winter months, I have to take the dogs up onto the common after dark pretty much every day, and it really is dark up there. On its dimmest setting, the Fenix will give me plenty of light to walk by, and its batteries will last for ever. But if one of the dogs takes off after a fox or badger or some other creature, I can switch to the brightest setting, which will melt your eyeballs ... and I can spot them a mile away.

So that's my excuse... (OK - AND it is indeed an incredibly tactile, sleek, sexy little gadget!!!)

I bought a £10 maglite (the ones roughly the size of a pen) as I had one as a kid but seem to remember it being much brighter.

I cannot emphasise how great the wind-up torches are that are in Wilkinsons at the moment though. I bought myself one of the larger black/silver ones last year and it's really bright. Then this year they have newer smaller ones in that you don't even wind up, you just pump it a few times in your hand. At 2.99 they're a bargain and my girlfriend was thrilled with it =D

Maglites can be improved by retrofitting modern led bulbs. However the best torch for daily use I've come across is the Fenix L2D. Twisting the end cap prevents accidentally switching on. Uses the latest LED's available. Comes with spare rubber seals and runs on 2 AA batteries. I bought the optional diffuser so doubles up as a lantern in the tent.

Specifications

Utilizes a Cree 7090 XR-E LED with a life of 50,000 hours

This torch has 6 modes over two output levels; turbo and general use. The rubber tail switch turns the light on and off by using a full click, half depressing the tail switch toggles between modes. Output level is changed by rotating the bezel.

General Mode: 12 lumens (55hrs) - 53 lumens (10.5hrs) - 107 lumens (4hrs) + SOS Morse Code Signal

Turbo Mode: 180 lumens constant (1.8hrs) + Tactical Strobe

Smooth long throw reflector

Digitally Regulated for Constant Brightness

Low Battery Indication

Uses two 1.5V AA batteries (cheap & widely available)

14.7cm (Length) x 2.1cm (Diameter)

Made of aircraft grade aluminum

Durable Type III hard anodized finish

Weighs 55 grams (excluding batteries)

Waterproof to IPX-8 Standard

Toughened ultra clear glass lens with AR coating

Push-button tail cap switch

Capable of standing upright on a flat surface to serve as a candle
when used with the lantern diffuser.

Includes a holster, lanyard and two spare o-rings.

Fully press (click) to switch on and turn the bezel to select the General Mode or the Turbo Mode. A soft-press (no click) anytime while the light is on will change the brightness levels of a certain mode. Keep the light off for over 2 seconds and the light will turn completely off, restoring the regulation circuit to the default setting.

As per title!

Who has the most expensive handheld torch?

Whilst looking up torches and prices, i came across "HID" torches.

I've ordered one each for the kids, but fancy something more expensive for myself......Not!

So come on own up!

I enjoyed your post so much that I took the liberty of posting onto another site - thought that you might like to see the comments

That's just pure, unadulterated rough porn that is. Still, if you're going to do a pupil dialation test it's always good to use one of them to incinerate the eyeballs first. === **** me thats a torch === I shudder at the thought of reaching into your pocket for that torch, and realising its not there === TWENTY 123A batteries! It's a 60 volt torch! That's £1/hour to run the LEDs or £14/hour to run the main light!
Tempting though it is at the knock-down price (£800 off), I think I'll stick to my Maglite.
=== You dirty, dirty **********! === "Do you think they do a right angle version?"seanbean === Utter utter filth  .Did not know it exsisted but know now my life will be empty until I have one. === Now if you break your knife, rest assured that you can always grind this flashlight into to someone. www.globalgizmos.co.uk...hp?pid=986 === Would it not be cheaper to dismantle a Lighthouse and wheel it around in a barrow? === I've actually seen this beastie. It comes in an ABS SUITCASE with the charging unit built into it. The whole SUITCASE with torch weighs around 35-40lb. I er, played with it for a little while and it is quite literally stunning. Like all HIDs, it takes a while to warm up of course, and when it does, you don't want to put your hand in front of it. Bit OTT for a camping weekend mind you, unless you're doing a '******* surprise' holiday === would that be classed as a star'd item, 3 flaming grand, i would rather wait for the sun to come up === can see them using this on CT ops...www.youtube.com/watch?v=8oV0oygsnEk ===

Forget maglite. The best affordable torch on the market in my opinion is the

      FENIX.

There are hand held torches on the market that cost £3500.00 each

I have the Fenix p3d. This gives ot 215 lumens on max setting awsome power for a light that fits in your pocket. Mine also doubles up as a lantern when you fit a diffuser on (£1.95). Comes with a belt holster and lanyard strap.

I also have the Fenix 2pd. This is tiny but still gives out 180 lumens.

Visit glowgadgets.com  click on the tk10 torch I think and watch doc demonstrate his collection of torches.

As some of the older members will know, i collect LED torches and have spent £100's+ of pounds on them. I have about 50+. One of the best i have is a maglight with a drop in module made by>> Inretech << It is very bright indeed. The downside is the weight as in all maglights. The adapter module itself consists of aluminum(?) heatsink which is screwed into the flashlight's bulb socket, circuit board on top of it and of course the LEDs. As you could guess by the name, trilight uses three 1W Luxeon Star LEDs. So, what you get is a powerful and durable light, yet very economical. I also like Led Lenser for cost and quality. I have so many Led torches its unreal I have a few halogen torches too. You cant beat the latest LED ones though for pure white light and burn time..  LUXEON K2 tffc LED's in torches are the bizz, there are some other LED's made by other company's

Heres a 10 watt LED luxeon torch. CLICK HERE

For me it's a hobby lol

I agree with bfurphy. My OH has a torch for every occasion. It has become a standing joke in our family.

Never have any problem finding one -  problem is finding one that actually works is quite another matter!!!
