I am really struggling with what cooking equipment to use. We have single gas burners- 2 I think. We will cook alot and there will be 3 adults and 3 children in our party so cooking properly is going to save us alot plus we don't enjoy eating out all the time anyway. Nowt like homecooked food!!
I was thinking something like a cobb, cadac easy chef or a george foreman? Can anyone help me with the pos and negs of these? or throw anymore suggestions in.
Cobb makes a great oven to use alongside your gas burners the actual cooking time is not a lot different from your oven at home.
George Foreman is good for grilling if you have EHU, but you might need a larger one for that number of people.
couldn't possibly comment on a cadac, except that every one i have seen in use, has had a windbreak around it - which you wont need for the Cobb or George Foreman.
------------- Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional
We have a Cadac Safari Chef. It has loads of different features, griddle, frying pan, wok that doubles as a lid, & BBQ all in one unit that folds up into its own small holdall. It is a clever design & very handy, but in my opinion not very well built. They make larger designs too. We use it when the weather is good, but most of the time we manage with a 2 ring stove with a grill.
If you are going to get a EHU pitch why not take a slow cooker, then you could prepare the food in the morning, go out for the day, or just chill around the site, and then in the evening most, if not all of the meal will be cooked. I know that I am going to get a slow cooker just for camping.
If you like your food grilled you can get a George Foreman that works off a Camping Gaz cylinder, its big enough to take 7 or 8 chicken breasts and comes with its own carry case and shopulder strap.

------------- Some people have nothing much to say, but you often have to listen for a while before you realise it!
Hadn't even thought about the slow cooker idea, I use mine alll the time so think that would be the perfect solution! Esp considering this our first time with the family, I might never want to camp again . If all goes well I'll look at getting a cadac I think. Thanks again
I always take our 2 ring stove/grill, my stainless steel 3 tier steamer and our slow cooker. We're a family of 2 adults and 4 kids (14,11,6 and 2) but I have cooked for 11 before without too much trouble.
I tent do stick to things like curry, chilli, stew and then use the stove for the rice and vegetables.
I have cooked aSunday dinner for 8 which was very successful and rather fun!
we have a sapre 2 burner stove that I put a cast iron griddle on and works a treat for normal meal or bung it outside and a bar b. Takes up less space than a cadac and was cheaper too!! we had a friend that has an all singing and dancing cadac and he only ever uses the griddle. Depends what sort of stuff you eat really. I can do spag bol brougt frozen from home and rice on the 2 burners, pre sliced garlig bread under the grill and hey presto.
The griddle just means if you do burgers, fish fingers, sausages you can do everyones in one go instead of shifts in a fry pan. it is healthier too.
------------- Oh am loving the tin tent after campaining against it..........I was wrong.
I have a cobb and will take a single gas ring with us.
This week I have been cooking on just the cobb and one hob ring to try and work out if it is possible, which it seems to be.
You could do the same just cook a couple of meals with only your slow cooker and a couple of gas rings on your hob (or electric) and if you find yourself desperately needing something else then you might need to reconsider.
