IT's worth noting Davey that the EN Specs are a minimum standard.

anything that exceeds that standard is still ok for sale and use.

I've had 4 company cars over the past 12 years or so that I've exceeded 100,000 miles on each and allways used premium fuels [Fuel cards that were BP] and never had an engine/fuel system related problem, nor had most in the corporate fleet.

Same with my, now 7 year old, citroen Hdi. Allways fed it good fuel.... However most 'evidence' is anecdotal at best......

.......Has anyone else had diesel pump problems? Or do you all use a premium fuel or additives to put the lubricants back into diesel?

On reading the posts in response to your question, the answer seems to be...no!

I've run diesel cars since 1985 (Originally a diesel Golf) with no significant pump problems.

Don't know at what mileage you needed a new pump. But several years ago, I had a Volvo 740 with the 2.4 6cyl VW engine and at 200,000 the pump leaked. The Volvo dealer recommended replacement for (as you pointed out, £££££'s.) But a local specialist diesel injector speciaist re built the original one for £'s.

The diesel injection pump is an exquisite piece of mechanical engineering and and will only be touched by specialists. Anybody else will say you need a new one. Perhaps local diesel injection specialists are an overlooked source of help.
