Can anyone tell me the full weight of one of these bottles 907 (camping gas) as I am trying to work out how much gas is in it. I can see that when full it has 2.72kgs of gas in but I can't find the empty wieght of the bottle
Good morning and welcome to the forum - first post .
My bathroom scales weighs a full bottle at 6Kg. Please tell me that they are weighing it as too heavy - it would make me feel better each morning when I am standing on them!!
From the Caravan Club's handbook:
2.7kg is the weight of the gas.
6.5kg is the weight of the full cylinder, including the gas.
So 3.8kg is the weight of a completely empty cylinder.
LOL, sorry to be the bringer of bad news! Or perhaps your cylinder isn't quite full? Maybe a bit leaked out?
Yes, that must be it. Somehow, despite the seal being unbroken some gas must have leaked out; or quality control allowed a partially-filled gas bottle to leave the compound.
I should write a stiff letter and ask for my money back. Thank goodness you explained it to me and I no longer need to worry my weight.
Now, where's that streaky bacon butty and bottle of beer?
The Tare Weight is stamped on the bottle, usually around the base ring. This weight can vary, that is why it is stamped on the bottles individually, so do not take the CC weight of 3.8kg as being gospel.

Ah, what relief! More and more evidence that maybe by bathroom scales are not hiding an ugly truth about my weight!

That's right - for example the bottle I have here has a tare of 3.65kg.
That said I'm sure they'd not vary all that much, probably not enough to make much difference to calculations (not least given you can't get all the gas out, and variations of temperature).
