I have got a gas fridge, last weekend it decided to stop work with full of food.

It still lights up but does not get cold?

Does anyone know what can be wrong with it.I am going away again in the next few weeks.

I assume you mean a portable 'Combicool' type of fridge?

Turn it up side down for an hour or so, then turn it back again for a similar time and light it.

Good luck

It sounds like the refrigerant has crystallised in the condenser tubes at the back of the unit. They're the little black tubes that you can see on the back - the so-called heat exchanger.

"Peridot" suggestion of turning the fridge upside down a few times is a good one. You then have to leave it for quite a time, say 5 to 6 hours - 24 hrs is better, for the refrigerant to work its way back to its rightful place. Its a very common problem with the older fridges

We have an electrolux one too. They are very sensitive to "angle". If you don't have them completely level, in my experience, they won't get cold - I guess the cooling fluid won't circulate.

I carry a selection of odd bits of wood around, so I can prop it level before lighting it.

We have a new Ezetil and as Kimac says, they have to be level.  We also carry round various bits of wood and a small spirit level.

Wehave a "spotless" 3 way fridge and last time we were camping it didn't get cold ( on electric) but when we got home and plugged it in it was fine - typical !!

I will from now on take small bits of wood a small spirit level too - thanks
