hi, I have an electric coolbox which has a plug on the end (not an in car charger), and I want to take an extension lead with me to plug it in to. Can this extension lead be plugged straight into the electric hook up on camp sites? or do I need a converter kit of some sort? Sorry to be a bit thick, but we have never camped with elec hook up before!!!!
You need a proper EHU unit designed for use in a tent - they have the blue connection on one end to plug into the site supply, the other end has 'normal' mains sockets. The whole unit is weather-proof and contains all the necessary safety cut-offs, etc. You will be looking at paying around £40, but they are easily available at camping/caravanning accessory shops.
I have just started to look into electric hook up. You have to have special connections, its not just an extention lead. Sometimes quite a long lead is required on some sites. You can read on this site it gives plently of info on whats needed. (all forums) can be expensive to buy, lucky for me by brother in law is a electrician.
