Hi all, I've recently started getting into camping around the UK so thought I'd join a community of like minded people on the internet!
The last time I went camping, there was quite a large group of us spread around the site and our friends had some radios to keep in contact. Unfortunately we didn't have any of our own, but they seemed such a great idea, as mobile phone signals were somewhat lacking!
I've recently picked up myself a pair of Motorola XTR446 radios to use when camping and for when we go hiking etc, and was just curious as to whether any of you do the same?
we use similar ones ,we did start with those crummy 8 channel types and spoke to everyone bar the intended person so we got 300 channel ones which are silent bar when we use them.
we use them at bootfairs to track each other down as well !!!very handy
Just dont try to take them into Cuba - we did, thinking she'd find a friend and want to go off around the resort by herself. We nearly got arrested at the airport! lol
We are just looking to buy some to keep in touch with DS who is ready for a little more freedom to explore on his own on holiday and at home. Any tips for best buys would be gratefully received.

------------- Wouldn't it be great if schools and hospitals had all the money they needed and the Army had to hold jumble sales to buy guns!
We use them for on the journey if there is more than one car going and for the kids on site. Great for when your mobile is out of range. I also take my ham radio Yaesu VX5R portable and tune it to the walkie talkies.

Hi We use them all the time as we often travel in two cars. I have borrowed expensive ones and have bought cheap ones and believe it or not my cheap £25 ones from Maplin were far superior and crystal clear. they have a really good range as well.
I bought some to take to I of W last month (Binatone long range 550). Once we had found a frequency that no one else was on (out of the 304 they have) they were brilliant! Have paid for themselves already in savings over using a mobile phone.
Also use them when my 11 year old goes out to play in the village as again it saves money on phone calls.
