No, a rectifier is not an inverter. They are, basically, opposites. An inverter changes DC into AC. A rectifier can change AC into DC. I say 'can' because rectifiers are also used to smooth rough DC as you would get from a dynamo. Rectifiers are also fitted to the alternator (produces AC) in your car. This converts the AC into the DC that your battery and electrical system requires.
