Note there are two models, unfortunately with only a subtle variation in model number.
The CAB-40B, in blue, cools to 20°C below ambient temperature whereas the CAB-40, in grey, cools to 30°C below.
The latter sells for around £150 so a fair bit more expensive, but certainly for camping in warmer climates (even in the UK the inside of a tent can get roasty) I personally think the extra grunt is essential.
I have one and I take it camping. Just dont lay it down, keep it in its normal upright position and it works a treat, and its just about half the price of the gas, ehu, battery model. Horses for courses, if you dont use ehu you will be needing a fridge that can run on gas.
Its also worth taking a couple of carpet tiles to stand it on.
We've just bought a Matsui table top fridge from Currys but yet to test it in the field so to speak. Comet also sell them too at around £79.95 so if you always camp with EHU one of these should suffice. Argos have them but every time I tried to order one they were out of stock for pick up or home delivery, probably because they were around £10 cheaper! Prior to this we had a woolies 12v coolbox which was as effective as a chocolate tea pot especially with that ONE bout of warm weather we had this year.
------------- If you have a problem stressing you, sort it. If you can't, there's no point worrying about it coz it won't make a blind bit of difference!!!! Jules
I can highly recommend the Icey Tek cool box just fill full of ice for 48 hours before you go camping leave till the last minute ,empty out ice put in products,It keeps products cool under 5c for 7 days we have used it for 9 but after 7 days temp was about 9c so we just put a couple of ice bags in to bring down temp.BEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD
I've just bought a Waeco CAB-40 for £150, and have just returned from my first camping trip using it and am SO pleased with it. It's a decent size and we bought some ice from a supermarket to get the temperature down at the beginning, and it was still mostly frozen after 5 days running it on gas (it was unnecessary anyway, as it cooled very quickly).
Do remember if running on gas though, that you need to budget for buying a gas cylinder which is not cheap (mine cost £55 for a cylinder which should last 8 days and will cost about £20 to refill).
I've been hesitating for ages about buying a fridge and am so glad that I've finally gone for it and got myself such a good one! Good luck!!
