Hi all,
Apologies in advance  for those that have gone through the 'which cool box' question but I have searched the forums and none quite answer my query in full....

We never use EHU and I am always scared that if we plugged a cool it box  into the car,  that we will run the battery flat  (not really sure how they work) Also worried about those that run off gas ...so my question is.. does anyone recommend a medium size (20 - 25l) cool box that is :

a) Is totally safe to use (e.g wont, by some freak of nature explode!)
b) won't flatten a car  battery ( I am not sure how they work to be honest, e.g do you plug in for an bit and then unplug from car once contents are cold?)
C) is under £50?

thanks in advance

If you never use EHU the only way to run it at camp is by gas. When travelling by car you can plug into your cig lighter ,but must keep the engine running. If you stop at a motorway service for a break for eg. ,just unplug it.Haven't seen a new 3 way fridge for under £50.00

Electric cool boxes and small fridges are incredibly noisey and not really cool at all weve had both.We reckon youd be better with a performance cool box an bit larger than your 25l ,coleman and igloo are by all accounts the best makes  weve just bought a coleman though if space is an issue igloo have a smaller footprint some of these can keep ice for 5 days no power at all. The price range is £35-£50 but you can soon throw that much food away.

Another vote for the igloo.  We found freezing 2 litre lemonade bottles last much longer than the blocks.

This is where we got ours from, excellent service.

We also bought this, it is great.

Yes another vote for the Igloo maxcold.

Just back from 2 weeks in France with it's performance was fantastic.

Well worth £50.

Hi Wenpip.

I have got the Waeco CF-25, decided on that model for two reasons, first was that I found it very cheap on Preloved, brand new never been used, still in sealed box, second it is quite compact, I was looking at the Waeco CAB-40 but felt it was to cumbersome, as for the CF-25 I will be running it of the car or liesure battery, the fridge automaticly shuts down, to preven you getting a flat battery, which is a very handy feature, although you can get an add on device for any fridge that will prevent you getting a flatt battery, also the CF-25 works like a real fridge, unlike an absorbtion box type cooler, I am sure the work very well, the CF-25 is overkill on the chill realy, as you can set it to go as low as -18C not that I need it to go that low, +3C will be my requirement.

Its igloo maxcold for me. They work really well, like someone said freeze bottles of water they last for days.  I put some fresh chicken breast in my igloo with frozen and other fresh food items and when we arrived at the campsite two hours later they had  started to freeze.  Used mine for four nights when we got home i took the bottles of water out to find they were still partly frozen.

Well worth the money but might be a little large for some people.

an igloo on wheels is slowly coming to the top of my list of camping essentials  They are just over 50quid.

I understand the key thing with the posh coolbox is to prime it well. It is no good half filling it with food just before you leave and expecting it to stay frozen for a week.

meanwhile i make do with picking up a bag of ice with the shopping & sticking it in a good quality coolbag or a cheap ice box, which i keep in the shade.

My Igloo 70 Maxcold (cube on wheels) was great in France this summer, even felt confident to keep raw meat in it. I bought it on ebay for £39.99.

It has also been great for a beach trip and a picnic concert (the wheels were great!), and kept the wines and beers cold when we had a house party this summer too !
