I bought the pricey Gelert ones a few years back when we got our new heavier tin tent and I was trying to save weight in all areas, (apart from around my own bum unfortunately ), and while I was quite content to put up with the difference, (i.e. the non-fluffiness thingy and the thinner cottony type of feel), hubby wouldn't have a bit of them! Hated them with a passion even though I told him how to pat himself dry rather than try and rub. But......
When Lidls had their own microfibre towels in the following spring.....I thought I could fool him into still using the very quick drying towels after all and not mention the 'm' word as in 'microfibre'
They LOOK like normal towels and they're kinda fluffy too and guess what peeps........my devious plan worked. We're still using them, this is our third year, and he's STILL not grumbling about them but has made several comments on how fast they dry
They are still lightweight, take up less room than the bulky beach towel types AND dry oh so fast, which has been a real bonus this year as it happens coz we're currently in Cornwall and the weather has been terrible until yesterday tbh.
One word of caution though with any of the microfibre towels DON'T use fabric softener on them as this ruins their absorbency and you do need to keep any ragged nails or hard skin nice and smooth if you don't want to get the hump as they catch on the towels, (not quite so noticeable with the Gelert or Lifeventure ones though).
I still often use my Gelert ones for swimming at home as they take up hardly any room in my bag and have the bonus of drying quickly after use. I just give them a rinse out on a daily basis at home with a pukka fabric softener FREE wash once a week.
As with most things though, with microfibre towels, it's horses for courses and like Marmite you either luv 'em or hate 'em.
