Hi all
Hope at least 1 of you can help me?I bought a caravan mover on e-bay and it wont pull my caravan up my drive (not steep)it just stops. Ive tried recharging the battery but its still same.So i put the battery off my car(diesel) on it and it worked fine.So what battery do I buy is it a diesel battery or a leisure battery? (i cant tell what the original battery is no stickers on it)PS the caravan is only a 2 berth (abi award transtar)The diesel battery would work fine but i would think it would need charging regulary.

Perhaps the battery in the van need a really good charge or it could be really old and needs replaced.

Your choice what you use but I would choose to replace your van battery with  leisure battery. I believe (I'm no expert) they perform better when being used for lighting, fridge, movers Etc.

Have you tried giving the original battery a good recharge?  The obvious choice would be a leisure battery but it is not a typical leisure battery application.  the built in mover on our van uses our vans leisure battery so I am sure a normal leisure battery would be fine.

Isn''t there a battery in your van ? If it's in good nick then use that for your mr shifta if it's not in good nick then it''s still worth going for a leisure battery then you can take it with you and use it if your not on EHU.

You probably need a new leisure battery, but get the old one checked out first. Most battery suppliers will do a free check for you.

For a Mr Shifta you want a semi traction battery. But I would recommend getting a multi stage charger first and seeing if it will rescue the battery you got with the mover. By the way if it's the wheels spinning put something/someone on the hitch to increase the noseweight.

Aren't they supposed to push rather than pull?

Hi
Thanks everyone for the replies.Ive tried charging the original battery up but still stops half way up the drive (wheels not spinning it just stops)I know my caravan battery is fine, so i will try that on the mover. If that works i will buy a new leisure battery. Thanks again for all your help.

I think the simplest answer would be to ring any Mr Shifta dealer  and ask for their recommendation as to the best battery. It is definitely worth getting the battery checked as it may be dead or dying or just need a good charge

Having demonstrated Mr Shiftas several years ago for Barry Wilson[Mr Shifta] I feel I can add to this debate.

Firstly you require a SEMI TRACTION BATTERY, a leisure battery is not really suitable as its designed to supply a steady amount of power over a long period of time, whereby a semi traction battery [as fitted to wheelchairs etc] is designed to give large amounts of power as demanded by the powerful 12V motor fitted to the Shifta.

This type of mover relies on rthe noseweight of the van to assist its "grip" on the surface it is being operated on.

Therefore pulling a van up hill means the noseweight is reduced dramatically and wheelspin will probably occur on the Shifta.

Try pushing the van up hill with the Shifta, the noseweight will obviously be a lot greater, you can even increase this by either putting extra weight on the A frame or even getting somebody to sit in the front of the van.

If you contact Barry Wilson direct at Mr Shifta he will advise you about the battery you require.

Hi just got this of there web site. Think the best thing is for you to contact them

http://www.shifta.com/index.html

Batteries

Batteries fitted to Mr Shifta3 are of the semi-traction type, vastly different to the leisure battery fitted to caravans (one reason not to attach a mover to your caravan battery), it will accept more deep cycle charges. We carry stock of semi-traction batteries suitable for all variants of Shifta.
