Bearing in mind that the kit will need to be able to be transported without personal transport,
I assume by this you mean it all goes in one bag, and they're travelling public transport.
With some thought and careful packing you should be able to get everything you need for a weeks wild camping INSIDE a 60L rucksack... If you can't get it all in, you're taking too much unwanted stuff. Typical kit inculdes... 1-2 man tent, sleeping bag, mat, stove, fuel, food, cooking stuff, water, full waterproofs, spare clothes, wash kit, towel, first aid kit, torch, maps, compass, camera etc..
