 hi

 does any one use spotting scopes or monoulars ? i have a small monoular which fits in my handbag but i was thinking of getting a slighty more powerful one. but am i stuck for choice ??? ican;t use binoculars as i have an eye defect

hubby is also interested in digiscoping so maybe able to combine the two

I have the 'picollo' & it is very good for the money! Add to that a cheap & light weight tripod & you are away!!!!!

For transportation & convenience though, you can't beat a pair of 'bins'!

Have a look at this site  www.birdforum.net should give you both something to look at.

I use a Carl Zeiss spotting scope and it is unbelievable.

It is bright and clear with zero "fringing". (coloured halos around everything)

I use a fixed 30x eye piece and a 20-60x zoom eye peice.

The only downside is price!

Well over a grand with the eye pieces.

I think the slight fringing on the moon shot is from the digital camera.

You do get what you pay for with optics, so buy the best you can afford.(I used some money left by my late father to buy mine, as i wanted something that i would never sell)

After trying all the rest, only Leica came close but the Zeiss had a slight brighness edge.

Well if we are showing pictures this was taken from about 50yds away with a canon eos 300d with the standard kit lens attached to a Nikon ED78 scope with a 25-75 zoom eyepieceset at 25X, the scope and eyepiece can be found from about £400 but only secondhand as it is no longer made, the ED80 which replaced it with the same eyepiece would cost about £900. The camera was attached to the scope using a Nikon FSA1 and FSA2 digiscoping attachment.

thanks for replyling ive been looking at the visionary m12 monocular was nice and clear and a reasonable size  and price

If you want a good scope then spend as much as you can. The Opticron ES80 is one of the best value for money, its not cheap, but you get a lot for your cash (others will probably disagree). If small is what you are after have a look at the Opticron mighty midget V2 (can be used for digi-scoping. Whatever you got for, be sure to try it out first.
