Hi all not trying to go down the 'whos the best sparky route' but yes, I was thinking of it as pure advisory to campers.
No it it not mandatory to have public owned items tested but having been camping only a short period I have been asked to help many times with the old 'My lead thingy keeps tripping can you help?' only to see something straight out of Del Boys garage plugged into the campsite ballard.
On the double insulated issue of testing, remember that the leak test is there for sensitive or double insulated items, giving a clear representation/reading of its condition rather than a visual.
Also if people continue to screw as much out of the camp power as possible as in another thread here then I think it will be a matter of time before someone gets hurt and campsites impose a compuslary test and charge to use it on-site.
Yes we all know that the item was safe at time of testing.....and will be used in a possibly damp enviroment but we as sparks competent and qualified to test must not only investigate portable items in say a work place but also the socket they are supplied from and advise (how many RCD leads have you seen home manufactures not taking into consideration IP CODES?). So say a company jet wash was to be tested then the competent tester would also inquire to the last Installation PIR or MWC stating when they were carried out to ensure the RCD feeding the socket was last checked. (17th Edition) and was safe to supply said jet wash. (remember we can all cash in on PAT but how good are we doing it?)
Regards test equipment.. im using AVO PAT DV3/4 and an Earth loop impedance meter for RCD checks
Sorry this may sound like Sparky tennis but was just asking if there was a possible service to supply and would anyone with have a mind for safety take it up. Similar to having electric blankets..really warm and comfy but really dangerous but should be tested in the home periodically to ensure personal safety.
