As a matter of curiousity, if there was an Electrical Test and Repair Service available at your campsite that covered Portable testing (for personal safety) EHU checks and Caravan Test and Certifications (handy for resale value or problems) how many would possibly consider this service????????? Just thinking of filling a possible demand.

a simple yea or nea will suffice.......................

would you do an insulation test on double insulated items and if so how?
pat32 testers cannot do anything more than fundamental insulation tests and remember appliances are used in more hazardous situations than they'r designed for in camping so how would you pass something for use in tents?

sounds like an idea i though of but no demand out there unfortunately people tend to ignore stickers and timescales when money is involved and ofcourse no legal obligation outside work places for it to be mandatory.
testing the trips is easy enough so long as the trip to the "tripper" isn't as sensitive as the stuff your testing

not sure the "repair" service would work though unless you have a van full of spares for everything conceivable your testing and manufacturers are very cagey on repair manuals knowing their value to others.
not saying its a bad idea seeing some of the outrageously dangerous stuff i found safety testing it should be mandatory for all

one chinese students (i worked in a uni) rice boiler had actually melted the wire and the carpet beneath it but it was still in use!!!! amougst hundreds of lesser infractions

whilst you have a power invested in you to confiscate naughty items in the workplace non exists outside of it you can only "advise"!!! a person with a valid test lable getting a shock because the item is used outside "may" have a legal ramification on the tester who pronounces it safe

i'm not dissing your excellent idea just guiding you down the path that brought up problems i encountered when thinking of providing this service ,i decided to stay well away

I think its a good idea but an even better solution would be a general guide on this website about the need to look after electrical gear and what to look for after all 85% of pat testing is visual. I have only failed 2 items this year on a insulation test but many because of damaged cable or broken plugs.

Guess what i am saying if campers where aware of what to visually inspect on there own equipment many would be safer,

Hi all not trying to go down the 'whos the best sparky route' but yes, I was thinking of it as pure advisory to campers.

No it it not mandatory to have public owned items tested but having been camping only a short period I have been asked to help many times with the old 'My lead thingy keeps tripping can you help?' only to see something straight out of Del Boys garage plugged into the campsite ballard.

On the double insulated issue of testing, remember that the leak test is there for sensitive or double insulated items, giving a clear representation/reading of its condition rather than a visual.

Also if people continue to screw as much out of the camp power as possible as in another thread here then I think it will be a matter of time before someone gets hurt and campsites impose a compuslary test and charge to use it on-site.

Yes we all know that the item was safe at time of testing.....and will be used in a possibly damp enviroment but we as sparks competent and qualified to test must not only investigate portable items in say a work place but also the socket they are supplied from and advise (how many RCD leads have you seen home manufactures not taking into consideration IP CODES?). So say a company jet wash was to be tested then the competent tester would also inquire to the last Installation PIR or MWC stating when they were carried out to ensure the RCD feeding the socket was last checked. (17th Edition) and was safe to supply said jet wash. (remember we can all cash in on PAT but how good are we doing it?)

Regards test equipment.. im using AVO PAT DV3/4 and an Earth loop impedance meter for RCD checks

Sorry this may sound like Sparky tennis but was just asking if there was a possible service to supply and would anyone with have a mind for safety take it up. Similar to having electric blankets..really warm and comfy but really dangerous but should be tested in the home periodically to ensure personal safety.

Nope not an MEA  or back aftie nor HSS just re-qualified to 17th and going down the possible business route as PAT is something is something I supply and wondered if it was something that a vanner or EHU would use.

Im a POMEM(L) not a MEA, worked for a living not cribbed my exams lol
