The top openers are more efficient as the cold air "falls out" of the side openers.

We thought we'd manage with the 12v coolbox in July but in the end we threw so much stuff out because it couldn't cope with the five good days of sunshine we had all year. These type of coolboxes, in my opinion, are great for a day out in the car when you want to keep a few drinks and a picnic cool but for any lengthy stay in warm weather you need something bettter. We bit the bullet and bought a table top fridge from Currys for around £80 and whilst it's not huge we had no worries about it not keeping food cool enough. That said though, in a bid to save taking the trailer at half term we may take the coolbox instead as the weather isn't going to be too warm at that time of year and we're only going for 4 days so a case of swings and round abouts really.

If you have a problem stressing you, sort it. If you can't, there's no point worrying about it coz it won't make a blind bit of difference!!!! Jules

I have a camping gaz elec cool box. Must be around 8 years old at a guess? I have used it for many long weekends and quite a few longer trips. Its had a lot of use and I had to service the motor and pletier heatpump a few years ago which had become faulty, but whilst I was at it I built a DIY thermostat control so that once the temp was down enough it would switch off if not needed. It probably made the batteries last a third longer. I could go a long weekend fri-mon with two 110ah batteries with the cool box connected continuously in typical July UK weather as well as taking power for lights etc.. Its still going strong :)

We've just had the use of one of the big camping gaz 12v coolboxes for 3 days. Very very efficient....to the point where the fan and motor iced up
