I used to use a £5 kettle in my van, but since the owners have dropped the ampage to 6amps max (no allowance for spiking) the leccy blows at the drop of a hat (can't power my 1200w hoover) and we can't even run the tele and the heating on full blast at the same time.
Its annoying because we actually pay a separate fee for the electric. Would anyone know of any legalities or legislation that says we are entitled to a minimum standard? I love the site otherwise, don't want to move, neither does anyone else.

Hi Karen
It is against the law for any caravan site to resell Electric. They get round this law by letting pitches called service pitches and one of the services is free electric, so they can supply what amperage they see fit.
and can charge what they like for the pitch.
Sorry you will have to live with it or change sites.
All the best
Rex.

Hi here is a guide to kettle been run with just a light
5amp supply 1kw kettle and a TV and light.
10amp 2KW kettle TV and lights.
16amp 2KW heater 1.5KW kettle TV And lights.
One problem with EHU leads in tents. They are set to trip at 10 amps even though the supply is 16 amp.
To get the use of 16amps you will require two electric 10 amp RCD's joined by one of These
But if you go down this route the set up will be safe to use but you will have to take care not to attempt draw over 16 amps,as you will trip the hook up RCD or the main site one and you will then not be popular

Thanks Rex, but our electric ISN'T free. We pay £1100 for the pitch, then £2 per night for electricity, when we stay there (apparently its going up to £3 next season). Does that make any difference? The statics are on meters, wish we were.
Our low wattage kettle went belly up when at scarborough bought a new one only 1 to 1 1/2 ltr 26 quid, was up united caravans at wide open and got a 2 ltr low wattage £8 so now we keep a spare
