Hi there folks.

Can anyone recommend a satnav that I am able to state preferences for vehicles on? 

It must be able to do Europe, be relatively cheap(!) and not send me down footpath size roads when towing a caravan! Mine is a Garmin one that is in danger of going airborne if it carries on

Have looked on a few websites, but its this important info that isnt commented on. And I dont have the inclination to spend a day in Halfords trying them all out.

Id rather go on user recommendation.

I'm sure there's a post in last couple of weeks re sat nav for caravan/large vehicles. Have a look on previous posts.

Have to say I love my Garmin, but don't tow a caravan.

Just seen this in Practical Caravan magazine, claims its specifically designed for lorries, coaches, motohomes etc, supposed to do the routes suitable for larger vehicles, could this be the answer for us caravanners? if like me you've been sent up some impossible single track roads with your sat nav this could be a godsend,

Have any of you got one of these, they are pretty pricy so I wont be buying one until I know for sure it actually does what it claims to do, what do you think?

TomTom has an update site you can download things like warnings for roads/bridges with width restrictions. they download straight to the TomTom unit! You select what width restriction you need warnings on.

TomTomOne is a good unit & has the same processing speed as the more expensive versions!

i have a rac sat nav and you can have car or lorry settings seams to work (i drive a hgv) but you will have to see if you can get a slot in card for the country you are going to..

It uses Route 66 software....

I have a TomTom which I have found very good driving all over Europe. I actually changed from a Garmin but it only had UK maps and was very expensive to buy the European maps on mine at the time. One feature I liked about the Garmin was that I could set it for a large vehicle, like a truck although even with that it took me down some fairly small roads! The point to remember about all Sat Navs is to check your route against a map, especially when towing. I have found this out to my cost!

The RAC one does change the route if you select the lorry it will take you into some lanes but they are ok..

I use it every day in my 7.5ton

not sure the make all branded RAC sorry.. Halfords sell them pop in next time you pass one you prob can order the slot in card ?
