How did it go at Reeth last weekend?

Can't help with the damp problem as I have never had this happen. We usually keep them in a holdall in the tent (pods by day and living area at night).

We just bought one of those moisture absorber doofers from Aldi £4.99 with two refills. You know those crystal things you get inside bags Etc.only much bigger

Might be worth a try.

We thought we would put it in the van over the winter. Maybe you could put it in the wardrobe/bag with the clothes. It will certainly remove the damp

Glad you had such a wonderful time ScaryMary - just spending time with the family not doing anything in particular but having a great time doing it. You'll know by now we are all nosey on here and would love to see pictures and hear about your hols. Don't forget to do a site and tent review.

Cathy - we got a couple of things like that for our van years back for over wintering - no damp problems in it at all. We also put the dehumidifier in from time to time. Think I saw some in Halfords the other day.

These from Lakeland look good if you have EHU and a spare 60 quid....

.............................................

2 Tier heated tower airer

After the success of our innovative 3-tier heated airer, here’s a 2-tier version that’s perfect for smaller households and smaller homes. Offers an ample 13m (42ft) drying space and just like its bigger brother is extremely economical.

Fully open 75 x 73 x 99cm H. (29½" x 28¾" x 39"). Folds to a depth of approx. 8cm (3"). 200W.

......................................................................

They fold flat and run off minimal electric. Tempted to get one for next year...

Ooh that looks really good. I suppose it'll give off a little heat so it'll keep the tent warmer too. The only trouble is I keep seeing all these really good ideas for camping that by the time next year comes we'll be looking for a HGV to transport it all in lol!

If you have a problem stressing you, sort it. If you can't, there's no point worrying about it coz it won't make a blind bit of difference!!!! Jules

We keep our clothes in holdalls and in the sleeping pods. Keep the holdalls zipped up.

One of the essentials of camping is always to keep wet seperate from dry, and that goes for bedding as well as clothes. You do this by having seperate zones ie car, porch, living area, sleeping area. NOTHING wet or even vaguely damp ever goes into the sleeping pods and that includes towels and wet trousers. Change out of wet things in the living area, or in the showers. Shoes and jackets stay in the porch. Things that need drying out ie towels and jackets go in the car unless it's warm and dry and then I'd possibly let them into the porch. Remember every wet thing that you bring into the tent will increase the condensation and that will make the air damp, then everything will get damp just from sucking moisture out of the air and that includes bedding. So it also helps to air out bedding every day, plus under the airbeds/mats, and left a good breeze through the tent for at least an hour a day.

In my experience though there's very little you can do about towels feeling damp except on the dryest of days, ick. You just have to live with it.

Oh, and that gadget above? All that's going to do is dry off the water from your clothes into the air inside the tent, and before you know it you'll have condensation running from the roof in streams. Keep wet stuff out the tent.

When I was camping in Glastonbury I put each days clothing (underwear and all) into a separate plastic bag and knotted them shut. This was after receiving advice from a friend who has been camping quite a lot and I have to say it worked a treat for me, while many mof my poor friends had to try and dry jumpers and other clothing on top of their tents...
