You simply connect the 12v 'van supply to the 12v input on the back of the TV.

Generally I would also suggest that you should use a voltage stabiliser because the battery voltage will vary so much. However many don't and and in most cases there isn't a problem

What type of 12v socket do you have on the TV?

Most caravan spares suppliers sell conversion leads to convert from the 12v, 2 flat pin socket in the van to a car cigar lighter type socket but is this the type you need?

We have a socket exactly the same as the cigarette lighter one in the car. It's besides the 240v sockets where the TV sits

Is the tv just a normal LCD that only has a 240v lead but you want a lead to be able to run it on 12v? Or am I being thick (wouldn't surprise me lol )

No your not being thick ypu have hit the nail on the head the tv has got a 240v cable going in to a transformer and this then takes it down to 12v so what i now need is a cable with a cigarette socket on one end and the round socket on the other but im not sure where to buy or which to buy i have looked on ebay but there is so many different types.

Got it in one: Use a stabiliser because the output from your battery, at rest-engine not running, could be as much as 13.7volts. This will not do your TVs little circuits any good at all  

Make sure that the power is going thru a voltage stabiliser first otherwise this all going to end in tears

As you already have a 240Vac to 12Vdc transformer, you actually already have a 12Vdc TV.  The bad news is that the !"Vdc supply in a caravan can vary quite a bit which will shorten the life of an LCD TV.

May I suggest that you use a device that takes in an unregulated supply and outputs a regulated supply to your TV.

For other appliances that only have a 240Vac mains cable connected directly to the appliance then you need a 240Vac to 12Vdc invertor.  This is much less efficient and can put a considerable drain on your battery.

Take the 12V transformewr to Maplin.  Explain to the pimply anorak behind the counter what you need.  They sell loads of different plugs & sockets & will certainly have what you need.  You may need to do a bit of DIY soldering to fit the plug needed.  I have used this method to wire up the 12V lights in my trailer tent.
