No, batteries really don't hold a great deal of energy compared to their weight. Generating heat is about the worse thing you could use one for.

You would be better looking at gas options, there was a recent thread on it.

Hi Dazzyb

Welcome to UKCS. We are a friendly bunch of people and there are many members with loads of experience and information

I am assuming! You will have gas ? I think you would be better off with a gas heater (heat wise and financially)

I agree with previous post, no such thing as a battery heater. Look at gas, such as the, (to my way of thinking somewhat limited) Blue Cat Heater

Ideally, (again to my way of thinking) bite the bullet and get yourself equipped for ehu.

Don't use one, you'll not get the engine started the next day.  Do not even think of using one on a leisure battery - you'll wreck it.  Buy a gas heater or get mains electric hook up & a fan heater.

Haha quite agree. Although it is only 200watts, that wouldn't kill a leisure battery, unless you ran it flat. But I do totally agree they are pointless.

Did you mean leisure batter heaters or battery heaters as in the sort of batteries you put in torches? Either way I wouldn't bother. If you don't want ehu then there are a number of gas heaters out there.

what all VW owners had dogs fed on baked beans ?????
go for EHU and a oil filled radiator from argos cheaper than a dog in the long run and have you seen the price of baked beans lately

Somewhere I've got a battery fan heater spare - you can have it as long as you want to run the car engine all night!!!!!! Seriously, the only use I ever had for it was in the Landrover to demist the rear window.

Gas realistically is the only route unless you go for EHU - which may not be viable or possible. A few people round here tend to assume everyone camps where hook up is available!

I used one of these on a camping gaz bottle...

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/redirect.asp?redir=http://www.towsure.com/product/8569-2kW_Parabolic_Heater

A lot cheaper to run than a cartridge heater and stable on the heavier bottle. It does create condensation (any unflued gas appliance will) and ovbiously common sense is needed for safety.

Glen
