Hi all

I have a Elddis362 and we are getting a noise from the towball area, mainly when turning corners, anyone got any ideas? i have been told not to grease the towball as it it a winterhoff connection.

"Sounds" like contamination of the friction pads in the coupling. First action would be to wire wool or similar the tow ball, might help otherwise its clean the pads with "brake cleaner" or last resort replace them. Or live with it!
Certainly not lubricate it as its a friction device.

We also have a winterhoff stabiliser and had same problem as you and our service engineer told to rub the towball over with some washing up liquid and a damp cloth and it sorts it everytime.

On mine, it was the friction plates wearing, so I fitted new, not too expensive. I grease my towball with vaseline, anyway. But the frictionplates can creak under tension. .

Hopefully not worn, as it its a new 2008 van and only been pulled a dozen times.

 For the Winterhoff and the Al-Ko coupling stabilizers greasing the ball competely negates its stabalizing function.

Getting any form of lubrication on the friction pads can permenantly damage them as it is absorbed into the pads thus making them slip on the ball hitch rather providing friction. If you think your pads are contaminated try cleanining them with emery paper to ruffen up the surfaces and after cleaning the tow ball with solvent or detergant give it a rub with some fine emery paper to. It stopped my winterhoff hitch creaking.
