Hi all, those who are into screw pegs and drills for lowering corner steadies - what power is your drill? 12 volt or 14 or 18 or even 24? Secondly, does your drill have one battery or two?
The voltage is not the important bit, its how many Ah's you have. Mine is a 14.4v with 1.5Ah which is fine for me, even for odd jobs around the house. These give you more torque for screwing into tough ground. The ones we have in work are 2.5Ah and will twist you right round.
Like Mickey says the 2.5ah is very torqey, easily enough to break a wrist if not concentrating, if its just for use on the van the lighter duty should be fine, saw circular saws in B&Q that were cheaper than the replacement blade !!! crazy world

------------- Does it ever get better than spare ribs and chops straight off the BBQ
we have just bought a cordless yesterday, and was going to keep it in the van(well i actually bought 5 intotal!!!for our boys as well!!)
not sure if all sainsbury have them but ours in plymouth has a special offer 14.4 v cordlesswith drill and screwdriver bits all in a case for £4.99 yesterday and just charged it up and pretty good for the price
However, on one of the battery packs I took it apart and soldered two wires onto the contacts and led the wires out through the bottowm of the battery pack.
There is about 20 foot of wiring going to a plug that goes into a 12 amp socket in the van. This gives me the equivillent of a 110Ah battery pack, more than enough to see to all the pegs in the awning!!!!
I have been using this system now for two seasons and it is brill.
Although most caravan parks have an adiquate EHU set up, mains electrics is by no means a guaranteed service.
If you are going to use your drill to put in, and at the end of your stay, remove your tent/awning pegs, you will want either some way of extending your 12v drill capacity or recharging your other voltage drill.
We use 12v drill because we have tried to have everything in our caravan as 12v, only using mains to recharge our battery and occasionally power some luxury mains items that we have for special treats.
12v is the one power source you can depend on in a campsite. The rest is pot luck and the busier the site the more likelyhood of a mains failure.
