Is there any manufacturer who supplies caravans without washrooms/toilet ?

There seems to be such a lot of wasted space if you don't want to use the washroom, it could be used for either more space to move about the caravan or for storage.

We are thinking of moving up to a caravan in the near future, but as all campsites provide shower/wash/toilets and dishwashing areas, why do caravan suppliers still insist on putting these into the vans ?

Would it not be better to have a choice ?

There are quite a few older vans which dont have a toilet. There is usually a cubicle type room with space for a porta potti, but not all have a built in loo, giving you the extra space for other things.

There are a small number of newer caravans which are 'dry vans' (I think Hobby make one, and Roma??) which have no washroom or plumbing on board.

The indoor plumbing and the ability to be self sufficient was one of the main reasons I moved into caravans. IMHO I doubt a dry van would be the first choice for many caravaners which is why they're not mainstream.

Hi, I truly believe a washroom is part of the advantage of a caravan over a tent. Some sites facilities are awful or damned busy. It must be nice to have your own.
regards.

The nicest sites are the ones without facilities on site. In any case why use others peoples when you have your own. At least I know ours is clean!

Our 20-year old van came with a shower cubicle but no built in loo. As we would much prefer to have our own loo rather than our own shower, we took out all the fixtures and fittings, papered the walls and put carpet down in the shower tray, and put in a Fiamma portable loo. It's great having our own place to 'go', especially during the night, and I for one certainly wouldn't be without it.

If I was buying a new van and had the choice between a 'dry' van and one with loo and shower - or even just a loo - I know which one I'd choose, and it wouldn't be the 'dry' van.

I suppose it's all down to each individual how you make the best use of any space available in a caravan - just because there's a washroom doesn't mean you have to use it as one, if you feel that site facilities would be ok for you then there would be nothing stopping you from using it for storage.

Our first van had no washroom - but it was only 10 feet long and 4 berth to boot! It dated from the 1960s, in the days when even caravanners had a toilet tent if on a site without facilities.

I recently owned a 1996 Freedom Microlite which had no washroom (9 feet long and 3 berth!) The main reason I changed it was to get a bathroom - somewhere I can get dressed in peace.

AFAIK all normal sized vans nowadays have washrooms. They even squeeze them in to some micro vans.

If you don't mind small, then have a look at the Freedoms, otherwise I think you will struggle to find anything without a bathroom.

If you don't have a toilet then you don't mind traipsing to the toilet in the middle of the night but when you have one in your caravan it's so nice for that middle of the night trip to the toilet to not have to put on shoe's and coat just for a pee lol

Our 1st caravan was a 2 berth without toilet and to turn on the water you had to connect the battery up and my son and daughter were sick all night, i realised then that a toilet would have made that night so much easier.  We've now got a 6 berth caravan with toilet (and shower) that is only used in the middle of the night early morning.  We still use the toilets and showers on site the rest of the time

You will find that the running costs (servicing, tyres etc and site fees) will cost you much more than tent camping.  Having a caravan with your own facilities - toilet and shower - will allow you to take advantage of 5 'van CLs and CSs and rallys.

There a lot of very nice campsites with no facilities, and sometimes I prefer that as it's generally quieter. But if you want all singing, all dancing sites and don't mind going to the toilet block at night in the rain, go ahead!
