                    I have two Campingaz 904 bottle's OK they don't hold a lot of gas, but I never run out, as one is always full, if you only have the one bottle, then you would have to weigh it when completly empty, and again when full, just make a note of the difference, and just check the weight as you use, too much faffing about realy, two bottles is so much easiar, you can get those magnetic strips that tell you how much gas is left, but again I think they also are a faff, last but not least, change over to BP GasLight, the bottles are transperant so you can see the gas inside, bit like a fag lighter, only taken them 80 years to come up with that idea, but it's a good un.

The tare weight is stamped on the bottle.

Weigh the bottle and subtract the tare weight, this will give you the weight of the gas contained in the bottle.

Hi Fostermum and Elaine, you can buy a guage from Towsure and use that. Or as i do, pour hot water over gas bottle. If the cylinder is cold to touch, gas is there, if the metal is warm to the touch, no gas.

We normally only do it at the start of the season, just dont want to leave home with a empty cylinder. It not too messy, dont need to pour buckets of hot water over it.

Each 4.5Kg bottle weighs differently, but its exact empty weight is on the metal collar, unfortunately in pounds & ounces for some reason.

If the bottle is full it will weigh, unsurprisingly, 4.5Kg more than if empty.

So the way to find out is to weigh your bottle, convert all the weights into either lbs or metric and deduct the empty bottle weight.

The bottle loses efficiency though as you burn gas, so you'll probably want to change at around 20% capacity (half a kilo) or wait for ages for the kettle to boil - but you'll get warning of this.
