Now have 3 springer spaniels so do not trust them in the tent with cooking/food!

Looking at a small utility tent just for cooking/storing food and fridge. I have seen the Outdoor Revolution Outhouse and the Khyam Day tent. They sem quite similar, but I wonder which is the most weather proof. I don't want anything too large to put up or store.....or squeeze into the car.

Any views/experiences?

Thanks

What ever you choose as a cooking tent ,make sure there is a vent in the tent above where you are using the cooker

Will campsites charge you extra for pitching an additional kitchen and/or toilet tent on your pitch?

Possibly  it might mean an extra fee, but better than a burnt down tent I think! I would hope to pitch it very close so I don't get wet if it rains!

I have outdoor rev, double outhouse. Its tiny packed up. like one of those kids pop up tents .

When we were caught out in last whitsuns 70mph  gales, two of our tents were flattened and had split poles , but the outhouse was still standing . it was being blown almost flat, but kept springing back up. Our concern was to get the big tents down first with the least damage, so the outhouse was left until last.

It had a couple of split poles, but was still standing. I knew it was extreme conditions and didn't fault the design in any way.

I emailed outdoor rev, about buying replacement poles and they sent me a complete set of  new ones free of charge, apparently covered in their guaruntee.

I can second what Debbie says. We had an Outhouse: terrible name, great little tent! Packs down to nothing, does a great job as a kitchen tent when up, stayed standing through at least one full on Cornish storm.

I sold our Outhouse when we got the Cabanon kitchen tent, which might have been a mistake for times when we have pressure on transport space as the Outhouse is a fraction of the packsize of the Cabanon. The Cabanon looks, feels and is a lot better quality but the Outhouse does pretty much the same job.

Have a Sunncamp handy tent, we used it as a kitchen tent, all the food, cooker & equipment, fridge, kettle and toaster all went in there when we had our frame tent. makes loads of space in the main tent then, Never paid extra on site to use it.

Even though we are now caravanners we still have it as we thought we might still use it, but with having an awning on the 'van, we never use it anymore, so its just packed away.

I wouldn't pitch it too close, or you would potentially end up with a burnt down utility tent and tent, if the worst were to happen!

I agree, the Cabanon is a fab, strong unit when pitched but, as is always the downsize with Cabanon, pack size and weight are considerable.

Reckon the Cabanon kitchen tent will last forever, though!
