I know I'm gonna sound like a wally but I'm trying to work out about gas for cookers and as nowhere actually sells gas canisters online (unsurprisingly!), I'm a bit confused about where you do actually buy these things and get refills from. Do the big chain stores ie millets, blacks etc? or do you have to go somewhere like a hardware store? I'm looking at getting the campingaz double burner and grill which seems to be very popular so I'm assuming there is no shortage of gas supplies for it but no one has let me in on this secret yet....please help!!
Hi when i need to do mine i will just use B&Q or Focus but i do have a caravan sales near me which i have to cheak out as they may be cheaper, try freecycle to get your empty gas bottles from so it works out cheaper ( its just the refill price then )
"Go Outdoors" do the Campingaz (Butane) Bottles, as do Winfields and most camping shops, refills are around £16 for the 904 and £18 for the 907, have a look at BP GasLite (Propane) as this is cheaper for the UK, at £16 per refill works less than half the price of Campingaz, and the BP bottles are transparent so you can see at a glance how much gas you have, you can run the Campingaz Chef of any gas, so long as you have the corrasponding regulator.
I assume you want something like a CampingGaz 907? Try the local recycling unit for an empty bottle. They're not supposed to hand out the dumped ones but lots do, for a £5 or so. You may be lucky and even get a bit of gas in it! You can buy refills at the local camping shop or a nearby campsite.
Thanks guys. Also found a site incase anyone else has similar query which makes it all a bit clearer re what these canisters look like. yey! I'm starting to understand!
Camping/caravan shops, most rural garages & general stores out of town, as well as almost all camp sites will do cylinders. Bigger gas companies will also have a depot somewhere near you. Look in the phone book.
Checked out my local dump and managed to pick up a calor butane (with a little gas left in!) and a calor propane bottle for £4. Very chuffed. Just want to confirm before I buy,- Campingaz camping chef double burner and grill will definitely run off either of these, I just buy a calor regulator for about a fiver, yes?
blue regulator for butane in a blue gas bottle, and a red regulator for propane in a red gas bottle,i have a campingaz chef double burner with grill and swaped from a small campingaz butane 907 gas cylinder to a 6kg calor gas propane bottle, difference between butane and propane is that propane works better when temps are realy low...
