As there are loads of cheap memory foam toppers about (netto about £29 for a double) has anyone thought about cutting one up to use as sleeping mats. You could get 3 single mats from one double bed topper. I bet they are very comfy.

I have just bought a thermarest toughskin sleeping mat,and on the instructions, under: Storage Recommendations,it says the following:

store your therm-a-rest unrolled, filled with air and in a dry place, with it's valve open.Because the mattress foam tends to * REMEMBER * the shape it holds most often, your mattress will self inflate faster if stored unrolled.

I am unsure, but this seems to imply that therm-a-rest use a kind of memory foam in this specific matress?

I mentioned the above in another thread, and have been told the thermarest toughskin sleeping mattress has NOT got any kind of memory foam in it.Just to ensure nobody is left with the wrong impression it may have.

I am looking for new bedding for our motorhome and would like to know the benefit of having a memory foam mattress topper and duvet. We have used sleeping bags for the past 40 years. Seems an expensive option but we are not so supple now and often wake up with creaking joints.

If I might stick my oar in, we did some research into memory foam, we ended up getting a three inch thick one for my son as he had a bad back, we noticed that most of the memory foam mattresses on the market were only one inch thick, IMO one inch is too thin for an adult, we did get the three inch for a very good price off ebay.

Might be worth going to have a look at them and try them out first to make sure that they are thick enough for you.

I will say that my son says that the three inch is amazing.

Thank you. Looks good value but it might be very bulky to store 2 of them in a motorhome. Would be good for home use. Heard of a combined foam topper and duvet which could be neat and handy.

hi, we had a memory foam topper in our old van and used to store  it under the front seats during the day no problem and it certainly helped my back, i'm 6'6'' and built like the preverbial brick outhouse now we have a new van with a fixed bed so we leave the bed made up and the topper is still comfy, £39 for a king size from jt hughes, worth it. happy days and nights. bill

Not a memory foam topper I know but we have this which we bought from ikea. It is less than £30 for a double and really smoothes out the ridges between the cushions when we make up the double bed in our van. It has made the bed much comfier and rolls up small so we can get it under the seat along with a kingsize duvet and 4 pillows. It has been our best buy for the van!

Interesting to read that memory foam is warm to sleep on. Wouldn't like that in Spain in the summer but appreciate it in the winter.
