Please help before we both admit ourselves to the local hospital................

We're trying to zip together two Vango Wilderness single sleeping bags (LH & RH zips) to make a double......and there's the the problem we just can't do it!!!!  I can zip them together on top of one another (as it were!) but that gives two hoods on the same side so one person would have a lid!!!  If I turn them round after zipping to get one hood each then the bottom twists.........the website says the bags have two zips to enable the bags to make a double and yes they do but HOW!!!!!!

I know we're old and decrepid but does anyone have these and know?

Hi I`m not familiar with theVango Sleeping Bags you describe but i had a similar thing with Outwell Camper Lux - you could zip the 2 bags together with L/H & R/H but you had to remove the hoods - these had zips to remove them - dont know if your Vango have zip-off hoods. Just thought i mention it in case it helps

Confusing indeed.

Now I'll add my madness.

If one bag has a l.h.s. zip with the hood on the bottom, and the other has a r.h.s. zip with the hood on the bottom, and you lay them together with the hoods on the bottom and the zips beside each other, can you not then zip them together, keeping the hoods on the bottom and the zips running down the middle of this BIG bag?

Is this the problem?

You may have to accept the zip being between you both and not off to the edge.

You did buy one right hand zip bag and one left hand zip bag, yes? To check, lay them both seperately on the floor folded  and zipped up as if you were going to use them as single bags. The zip on one bag should be on the right and side and the zip on the other bag should be on the left hand side. Butt the zip sides up together, open the zips down to the base (Leave the seperate base zips closed) and zip the bags together centrally using one section from each bag.

I think you've either not been leaving the base zip sections zipped up to themselves or you've bought two LH or two RH bags....

Thanks Spudz...we wouldn't mind if the zip was in the middle but to get one hood each the bottom of the bag twists into a point and looks like a mummy bag for the triangular shaped campers amongst us!!

Val, yes we have checked and def have a RH & LH but I think you may have cracked it with leaving the separate base zips closed as we haven't been doing that.......well upto 10.45 last night!!

I'm going up again to try....if you never hear from me again on this forum you know i'm still trying!

NNNNNOOOOOOOO didn't work Val.......did exactly what you said but realised there aren't two separate zips only a two way zip so there wasn't a little plastic threader thing at the bottom of the bottom if that makes sense!

Thanks to everyone for their advice it was really appreciated but I honestly think these bags do not form a proper double bag.......yes they zip together but not how we expected them to.

Ah. Are your  bags the mummy type? Because if so only the square end Wilderness bags zip together, apparently.

Take them back. If they're supposed to zip into a double bag and they don't then they're either faulty or not fit for purpose.

However...check the labels on the actual bags to see if they're LH/RH, not just the stuffsac labels. Wouldn't be the first time bags have got muddled up. And if when folded into singles they're identical as to zip placement then something is wrong.

Just had a look at the sleeping bags on the Vango website and a few out door stores and there is no mention of being able to zip them together. They come in left and right hand sided zips o.k. but this doesn't automatically mean that they can be zipped together.

Quite a lot of camping shop websites say that the square end Wilderness bags can be zipped together though.

Here and here, for example.

Checked the stuff sac, labels, placement of zips when folded and they are def RH & LH. Even laid them next to other bags (RH & LH) we have to compare just in case it is me.

You're right the Vango site doesn't say anything but oddly enough the swing tag attached to the bags states 2-way autolock zip to seal in warmth or facilitate ventilation (2 zips on Square & XL Square allows a LH & RH model to be zipped together). But they don't have 2 separate zips only the 2-way??

So I think we may have rogue ones and are sending them back as you say Val....if only to restore my sanity!!

Thanks again, much appreciated folks.

Don't send em back .... sell em on eBay as 'Rare & Unique' camping items. Sure to make a handsome profit!

Hope you get it all sorted and the head gets returned to 'normal' in the end.
