Hi everyone

Our caravan that has been in storage since we bought is now almost ready to go on site (yippee....).  We have an awning that came with the van but it's a lightweight one and we've been told it's not up to much and have been advised to get an all weather awning, especially as our caravan is going to be on site all season.

I have dug out the handbook for the caravan and it says "Ground to Ground Awning Channel Sizes:  28 feet, 5 inches/8.66m).  Can anyone tell me what size awning we should be looking for based on this size?  The height of the van is 2.51m and the overall length is 5.90m.

sorry if this seems a dumb question but being the novice that I am, any advise is greatly appreciated.

Probably an 875 cm awning which is made to fit a caravan with a ground to ground measurement of between 863 and 887. Mind you some companies size them differently and you may find one that will fit a ground to ground measurement of between 850 and 875, I could be wrong but I think Dorema are such a company.

Have a look here    These are all Isabella awnings on ebay and many of them look to be really good value.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

If i remember correctly to measure up for an awning you have to measure the complete awning rail from the ground. So with the van level, makes it easier, run a lenght of string from the ground at the front up and and along the awning rail all the way to the back and down to the ground at the back. Then measure the lenght of string and that is the size required. Then find an awning either the same or slightly under that size.
