Hi, Just a thought as i'm taking my trailer now on my sites and wondered what the best way to secure a small box trailer. I dont want to spend a fortune but there again dont want it to get nicked.

Trailer insurance is very dear and not worth the effort.

What do the rest of you do?.....or maybe you don't bother and i'm worrying too much.

Steve ..the proud owner of a trailer!  [:D]

I use a wheel clamp on one of the wheels, and I take the other wheel off and put it in the back of the car, just to make sure.

Clamp was £14 HERE cheapest I could find, much cheaper than insurance, but some sites insist on trailers having insurance, I think Shell Island campsite in North Wales is one .

Long bit of chain and a padlock round the nearest tree or substantial hedge!

It's worked so far!.......and not too costly. You can buy chain off a spool in the likes of B&Q although other stores may be cheaper.

ive only been away twice since owning my new trailer but i used a hitch lock and also have locking wheel nuts fitted which is more than enough for  C&CC sites imo,non club sites i will probably remove a wheel and chain it to something solid but if somebody realy wants it they will get it...

Thanks for the replies...i will use the chain and padlock method, and take off the wheels.

I may even chain my children to it as well as they are more scary than a dog.

hi,

Im very carefull with mine, i use a bulldog trailclamp approx £68 dependant on wheel size http://www.saundersonsecurity.co.uk/acatalog/info_TC100.html plus a hitchlock and an insertable coupling hitchlock. http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/redirect.asp?redir=http://www.towsure.com/product/359-Insertable_Coupling_Hitch_Lock I also use a heavy duty steel wire that is attached to a tree with a huge yale padlock on. and if there isnt a tree i attach it around the other wheel.

i couldnt bare it if it was taken. if i knew how to upload a pic of my trailer with all this on i would.

Hope this helps.

Hitchlock + wheel clamp.  If you can find a decent fence or similar you can use a motorcycle chain + padlock.

Steve.

Blimey, you lot are well prepared.

Right in that case, its both wheels off, long chain and a hitch lock.

and...if any dodgy characters around....i will tie a bit of string on it and the other end around my unsuspecting wife's big toe. If they try and nick the trailer there will be hell to pay.

thanks for the advice.

Steve

We use a hitch lock and remove a wheel which we carry around in the back of the car.
