Apologies as im sure this question has been asked a million time's before, i tried a search but to no avail
We are just starting out camping and have 2 small kid's 1 and 3 and to be honest we are struggling to think what kit we will need to buy for weekend break's during the summer, is their a definative list of need's for us starter's??
What is the best way to keep the kid's warm at night, plenty of layer's etc and a good sleeping bag or lot's of cover's an a duvet as kid's being kid's they riggle around like crazy
So far my list consist's of....
Airbed's, proper EHU, heater(either fan or halogen), powered cool box, water carriers, travel rug's and decent sleeping bag's.
I need to buy all of the above and some basic furniture(which im clueless about), so any recomendation's of what and where to buy would be excellent

Hiya
I'm no expert at camping with young kids (although I've been camping since I was a baby we were a caravanning family before I switched to tents in my teens!).
However, I would suggest:
-A Tent! -good makes such as Litchfield, Vango and Eurohike aren't that expensive
-Good sleeping bags -if you're worried about the kids wriggling I'd get a rectangle one (as opposed to a mummy bag) I've always preferd them but it really is personal preference! If being warm enough is a worry get a silk/fleece/cotton liner for the sleeping bag. Silk is apparently best but my bf's got a fleece liner that looks lovely and warm (admittedly I've enver used a liner... and frozen a few times! It's on my list....).
-Torches - as much a sI love the idea of wind-up torches, it seems only the expensive ones are actually any good. Some of the solar torches are really good but ultimately it's down to personal preference (I prefer solar, bf prefers his wind up so either way!).
-Mats/Beds - Something protecting you form the ground is important but to be honest I've not found anything that adds much comfort! If you're travelling in a car and have the space then I guess an airbed is probably your best bet.
-Something to cook on - always up for debate and depends how back-to-basics you want to go! Most people use the gas stove sets (I'm guessing these would probably be safter with kiddies rather than something like the Grilliput which uses 'real' fire!)
-Plates/Cutlery - I LOVE the Orikaso sets! They're REALLY light and easy to pack as well as being REALLY cool! however again if you're car-ing it... then average plastic crockery would suffice. Here's a link ot the orikaso set anyway http://www.tentastic.co.uk/acatalog/Orikaso.html (not sure if it's the cheapest place but it was one of the first on Google).
-Coolbox(es)/Bag(s) - good idea to keep the bacon cold! I wouldn't worry too much about a powered one but it depends ofcourse what you want to take. Long-life milk (or milk powder) doesn't necessarily need to be kept cold neither does butter or eggs but other things may do, good idea is to take frozen food which will keep your coolbox cold and keep your food cold too.
-First-Aid kit - ALWAYS an essential. even if only going away for a night, ALWAYS take a first aid kit that's got things in it you know you're not allergic to (for example the camping FAkits sold in outdoor shops usually come with waterproof plasters which I'm allergic too). It's essential to carry this! Plasters, headache/anti-inflammitory medication, maybe some bandages & safety pins and anti-septic spray/wipes is the bare minimum.
As for everything else it's really just comfort levels. Layering is important in cold (and even warm!) weather. Probably wont be needed in the summer but investment in some good baselayers is always a good idea. Most heat is lost from the head and I always sleep with a wooly hat (yes I look like a plonker... but I'm warm!!). Good socks always a good idea too! Good boots and waterproofs for daytime is always a good plan too!
What I wouldn't worry about: EHU (never used them myself, if you need to charge things consider the Freeloader or other type of solar energy? The Freeloader Portable (http://www.ethicalsuperstore.com/products/solar-technology/freeloader-solar-charger/) is really great but does need all day charging). Furniture I also wouldn't worry about. Maybe a ground sheet or a waterproof rug to sit on?
A heater's really NOT a good idea for a tent, neither is anything that may catch the tent alight (so keep the cooker away!) even if it's being used in the porch it's really not worth the risk.
