Will be going to a few rallies this year, and seeing how we will be stuck out in the middle of the farmers fields with no facilities except those we take, thought it might be a nice to have a bit of this year.
As its only for lighting it hasn't got to be too heavy duty, any info/recommendations would be great please.
I was in the local B&Q yesterday an they were selling a 900w petrol generator for £99. Havent a clue if its any good, anybody got one? Think it was powerline or something similar, their own brand.
Id echo the comment that if you are going somewhere busy dont take a generator as everyone else will hate you! (unless it is silent and emits no fumes)
Even the silent ones are noisy at midnight. My boss had a party in a field and the silent generator attracted all people who got lost in the car park at the bottom of the hill!!
We have a powerline generator £99 from B&Q got it for £50 off ebay brand new
very good. Make a cover it keeps rain off and suppresses the noise ply would do four sides with holes for cables and exhaust emissions. Also mention it when you book as some sites do not allow them.
Personally we rallied for 14 years with like minded people all over the country every weekend inc winter most had generators no prob very useful tool and if they are not needed why do we always try for electric hook ups we would like to have a hook up everyweek but it is not always possible.
I have used one regularly in one of the services I work for, they are amongst if not the quietest on sale. I would only use one on a field site for short periods though. In the street you can hardly hear them (36db) but in a quite place when the air is still they really do hum along. My personal preference would be not to use one even if I was the only one in the field. The noise would intrude on me and presumably the local wildlife too.
Where am I ,what am I doing here, generators, small one properly muffled with a cover switched off at 10pm should present no problem each to his own but they are a very usefull tool. We realise that tenters (lovley people been one myself) would probably not use one but brill for caravaners we always tell organisers that we are bringing ours so we can be sited accordingly.
