We are looking to improve our current sleeping equipment, and would really need to have it ready for our next camping trip in two weeks.
We currently use Millets own self inflating mattresses, which are comfy enough, although they have a shiny surface and so if you are on a slight incline/decline you slide up or down the mat! Thinking a Therm-O-Rest Trail Lite?
With sleeping bags, we currently have :
Me - a Blacks Quantum 300 down bag - nice and warm and comfy - but leaks feathers, not a huge amount but a little annoying (will sell it on e-bay as its not a fault, just how the bag should be)
Wife - a Eurohike 250 bag - small for some reason, very tight around the shoulders (very noticeable compared to my blacks bag) which means that she doesnt sleep in the bag, but uses it as a cover
We are looking to get two new bags - same make/model (maybe female specific for one). Trail mag recommend the AlpKit Skyhigh 600, although it is out of stock and also a down bag.
Considered a Ajungilak Tundra - looks good - although can't find any reviews.
Budget for all of this is £300 total (£150 per person).
I use a Vango venom 300 sleeping bag which is touted as 5-season and packs really small and light. It has some down content, but it's a good bag. I use a silk liner also.
My mat is a thermarest prolite 4, which is superb and very light.
we've got 2 fat airic's (self inflating mats) from alpkit.com but like your budget versions the surface is shiny. this time, on advice of people here to keep warm, i put a picnic rug under them and a fleece on top-no more sliding. much comfier imo than our flock airbeds we had before. so, errm try a fleece/sheet under you if the mats are comfy anyway?
I have tried the fleece blanket on top idea - which did work - but was looking to replace the beds with new ones as these are starting to leak air.
So are the Thermorest ones shiny too?
As for sleeping bags - I am going to take my Quantum into a Blacks store again on Saturday to confirm if they really should be leaking that amount of down - seems a bit rubbish really if they do?
