I have now been trying to light a cobblestone fro a Cobb for 5 mins, lots of matches gone and..............nothing!
I have a pork joint crying out for the Cobb - what do I need to do, I'm sticking a lighted match down the centre hole, I've also tried the lighter thingy that comes with it and nothing - any suggestions - I've tried what I've seen in previous threads other than a fire lighter in the bottom (which I'm not supposed to use - am I ?).
before you get hungry and ordr a take away i noticed the below on another board, never tried the cobblestones myself but did you get a flame when you tried to light it?
"I also bought some of Cobb's own BBQ fuel, Cobblestones, made from coconut shell. They are supposed to light with a match, be ready to cook within 3 minutes and burn for 2.5 hours. Well, they do exactly that.
When you light one there is a large hot flame (as some kind of surface coating burns) which lasts about a minute. Over the next few minutes the flame dies down and finally after 3 minutes you have a glowing charcoal brick.
"
Thanks Rochford6, yes I saw that, unfortunately I got absolutely nothing when I put 18! matches to it, not a flicker; not a sizzle - nothing - you never know it may be my technique (new to this whole wonderful lark!) or it might be a bad batch I suppose. I'll call Graham (I think that's his name - lovelly chap over the phone - tomorrow and try out another from the box and get OH to try just so that if he can do it, it will make him feel v manly (brownypoints to me!).
In the meantime, bit the bullet and put a firelighter in - shame on me - however the pork is now on with some potatoes!
Fingers crossed !
Thanks to everyone who read the thread for trying to help!
The Cobblestone is designed to light without the need for a firelighter.
Just a small tip to save matches and gas.
Between each Cobblestone is a cardboard separater Rip it in half, crumble it a little, put a match to it and place in fire chamber, put Cobblestone in fire basket and that is all that is needed.
It will really work every time.
Please do not use a firelighter as it will still be flaming long after the Cobblestone is ready to cook on.
