Hi Can you help please. We have decided to purchase an Isabella Magnum porch awning today but have been thrown into a quandry. We were aware that the carbonX was lighter poles, however today at Salop Leisure the lady advised us to go for the steel poles instead of the carbonx, as she said there has been a few returns due to the carbon breaking. Can you please advice us as we are still new to caravanning as to which poles would you go for and why. I want to able to purchase this today on the internet and have seen the CarbonX for £830 with delivery. Many thanks in advance.

I have a 6 year old Isabella awning with the fibre poles and it has been up in all sorts of exteme weather with no problems at all from the poles. I also have an Isabella minor porch with carbon X poles (used only once so far ) and can not see any reason why those poles should not be at least as good as the older fibre ones. Previously I had an Isabella Combi porch ( c 1985 ) that had a steel frame and I would not want to go back to the steel frame, I used this porch for 9 years. The steel is much heavier to handle and needs far more care in that it is imperative to get the frame dry very quickly after use as not doing so leads to slight surface rust appearing inside the poles which then leaches out and stains the awning.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

hi like Bill i have a isabella awning with carbon fibre fittings, nevver had a problem with it not even when the whole system is erected..full awning front canopy and two tall end anexx'es. i'd always go for the carbon fibre i'd say they flex alot more than steel will so i'd think the steel are more prone to damageing

We've had both Isabella IXL and Carbon X frame awnings in our time, and both have been excellent and far easier to handle than steel.

I suspect your resale value would be much reduced on a steel frame as well.

We wanted to buy the magnum but it would have half covered a window so decided against it. We bought the Opus full awning instead and have carbon x poles. Not had any problems with ours.

All these replies makes me feel very happy that I have gone for the right choice and ordered it last night. Previous to this we bought a Outdoor Revolution Techlite. Although it withstood the winds and rain it was a good large porch awning but the flapping noise in the night annoyed me. We then decided to shop round for another porch awning. I saw the Suncamp Scenic 390 on the internet and had a look at one at a showroom. It struck me it was similar material as the techlite and thought that maybe I was throwing good money after bad. There are so many good porch awnings on the market but hand on heart the Isabella was one the I really wanted. A few glances at my husband with the puppy dogs eyes he caved in. He will curse me when he tries to put the awning up for the first time as we are caravan novices but I am sure he will thank me in the end. I have now also ordered matching blue chairs, matching blue sun loungers, table with blue trim, blue stripped ground sheet and blue windbreak (All to match the blue stripes of the Limousin ....sad i know lol). I am now ready and looking forward to going away this weekend......whoop whoop..

We have the Opus with carbon x and no problem we leave ours up as we are seasonally pitched in Brean.

We also have the sunncamp 390 - that was our first awning and it does flap - we then bought an Apache Kensington that is brill - but we decided to then switch to a full awning hence the Opus
