Will be camping with 3 young kids - one will be 8 months.  Really think will struggle to fit travel cot in the car - any suggestions or experience of something we could use that packs up small.  Also what can I sit her in for mealtimes etc?

Thanks

The pushchair is very handy for feeding them in at that age, when camping.

i agree, take a pushchair it will double as a highchair, plus somewhere to sleep during the day,

when we went a few weeks ago, we took the travelcot, but ended up making a little bed next to our airbed, and he slept in there (he was 8 months then)

much easier with night feeds etc (still breastfed)

failing that, look at kampa junior beds, they have raised sides, but wont be completely contained,

hth

For my 1 year old, we used a Nomad cot (Nomad Cot).

Not cheap, but folds up small. Get the self inflating mat for it.

We also had a folding high chair that we borrowed, but I haven't seen anything like it in the shops. Try Little Trekkers for stuff.

Also got a mini table and chair for her now she is 2. And a roofbox. And a trailer. And thinking of a bigger car...

Camping travel cot

I saw this in Go Outdoors last time i was there and I was very impressed by it. It is a bit on the expensive side, but its a fantastic unit and packs down really small.

This might help With regards to eating times.

thanks for all advice - I will have a look through all the links.  I like the idea of just using the buggy as a chair and making a bed next to me - we have a big enough bedroom in the tent for this.  tinallkn4 what did you use to do this.  I am still breast feeding at night and have actually decided to try to carry on until we go camping as it will be easier than getting up in night and heating water for a bottle!  2 months to go so hopefully can keep it up.

Took a standard travel cot when we just had 2 children and was handy to get them off to sleep but then think camping makes them so tired you normally put them in bed once they already asleep?

we have 18mth twins, were away for 5 days, took travel cots but have now abandoned idea, just took up too much space in tent! we now got kids kampa airbeds, the ones with sides ,look really good, but you could get a pop up cot, used them last year, fold to the size of a frisbie, pushchair doubles as high chair, good luck and happy camping.

tbh, we got Asa to sleep in his buggy and then transferred him asleep!

and i just folded spare blankets to build up to the same height (and a bit) as the airbed and put him in the baby sleeping bag http://www.marshallleisure.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=34_195_35&products_id=169

(hope that link works, not very good at this!) cheapest i have found them

if you have sleeping pods in your tent, i cleared one out during the day and put a blanket on the floor, added some toys and half closed the door (inner netting one)! Asa could the roll round in there, i could still see him and he still felt part of it all, but was happy with himself! and safe of course!

dont bother with disposable bibs, they are too young for them and just rip them off!

i ended up popping into tesco and buying the pack of 5 economy ones and using them till they died! if weather is good, you could rinse them out and they wont take long to dry.

we use terry nappies too, so didnt have to worry about bins, just a nappy pail, washing and everything else!lol

I love the look of the kids kampa airbed - do you think this is ok for a baby?

i have been considering getting oneof the kampa beds, but will wait to see how we get on next time, i think it would be great with an under 5, but there wont be enough room on our bedrooms for a double air bed and one of those!

we are still sharing our bedroom with Asa's cot, so would prefer him to stay in with us in the tent till he leaves our room at home!

i cant see why it would be a prob for a baby (but that is just my opinion) after all the way you have to live when camping is not exactly 'by the book' as far as bringing up babies

The best camping high chair ever made comes from Ikea. The legs come off for packing, you can wash it under a tap, it's sturdy, stable, lightweight and has an optional tray. Oh, and it's dirt cheap. What more could you want?

When mine were small I used to have a little tray that clipped onto the buggy.     I am sure the you can still get similar - been a long time since I looked around the baby equipment sections.

The trouble with feeding them in a buggy is the crumbs and grot. However well you clean it after there will still be the odd bit of food smeared into the seams and in the damp environment of a tent that can turn into mould and mildew within a weekeend.
