A Dutch oven is designed (centuries ago!) to use on the ashes or embers of a campfire but these conditions can easily be adjusted to modern day camping use.
Get about 10 egg sized briquettes going on a regular BBQ.
Put whatever you like in the D.O. and place four briquettes under the oven and six on top in as neat a circle as you can make it.
This will allow you to cook the content of a 10" ¾ gallon DO for about an hour which is enough for a chicken.
Make sure there are no embers 'spitting' on the grass and you're sorted. If you learn to adopt the 'business as usual look' and a well trained handling of BBQ, briquettes and DO, nobody will try and stop you.
Believe me: The neighbours will be climbing the fences because of the most wonderful cooking smells!
