Hi Brian.
You can get the adaptors from most camping shops, branded either Coleman/Campingaz both the exact same item, I have seen them at around £15, they are of a switch mode design and do not cope well with higher current drain, although are OK for absorbtion type coolers, but will not work for a 12/24v compressor type due to the higher current drain, have a look at CPC not far from you at Fulwood Preston, next door to Asda on Faraday Drive, they do a superb adaptor and it a linear design not switch mode, so will cope with high current drain, I tested it upto 7amp's continous, it has a Cigarette lighter type socket fitted so you can plug your cooler straight into it, no faffing about with bare wires etc, the CPC product code is PW01885 the brief even says "for use with portable fridges" price is £20 inc vat, but check thier offer leaflets at the sales counter, as it is often featured, mine was £14, great piece of kit, even has a carry handle and cable/plug tidy. hope that helps.
